Brisbane Basket Brigade

Date: Sunday 11th December 2011

Venue: Marist College, Frasers Road, Ashgrove

TEAMS:
All volunteers are allocated to a team for the day, so please, before registering, read the following descriptions and decide which one would be your preference. Obviously we have to balance this so that we don't have too many funsters and not enough packers. Select your preference on the registration form, but please don't be too disappointed if it’s not your role on the day!

Note that on the registration form, the team selections all have the option of including Delivery. If you can't help with Deliveries, please be careful with your team selection.

Funsters - Are the welcoming committee, you paint faces, decorate packing space with balloons, streamers etc. Make the packer’s job easier by offering water and snacks. Break out into Christmas carols, dance, laugh and be crazy.

Boxes and Labels - Make the baskets (boxes) up and then hand out labels with each one, giving individual details of each family/recipient.

Food - Set up the trestle tables and prepare production line of food. Then assist behind the table as the Packers come past - stocking up the food tables when required.

Gifts - Prepare lollies, toys and gifts for packing.

Packers - Do the actual packing of the baskets. Familiarise yourself with the packing list of goods, stand in line – you are then handed a basket and a label for a specific family or individual and then you walk along the production line and place the appropriate number of items into the 'basket', then hand the completed basket to the Pretty Patrol. Repeat until all baskets are packed.

Pretty Patrol - Preparing the decorations, ribbons and cellophane for wrapping the baskets.

Distribution Team - Takes completed baskets and places them into organised delivery areas according to postcode and UBD map reference. Hands out specific baskets to drivers when delivery time is happening. Ensures every volunteer driver has a navigator, a map and at least 2 baskets to deliver.

What happens with deliveries?
Deliveries - once packing has been completed, drivers will go to the delivery team and be handed their baskets in the area that they have nominated they would like to deliver to, as well a map with the delivery addresses. They will also link up with their navigator (if they have not brought one of their own). NO driver delivers by themselves - you must have at least one other person with you – this is for safety and also to make it easier to deliver (Plus its lots more fun to share the experience!)

What if I don't have a car?
If you would love to help deliver the baskets, but don't have a vehicle, please come be a Navigator. Your job is to read the map given to you by the Delivery Team and assist in getting there!

What to bring:
Water Bottles (there will be water provided)
Snacks (to nibble on)
Santa Hats or other festive garb
Fun attitude
Map / UBD if you would like to deliver some baskets
Lots of SMILES

Arrive at:
8.00 am - For these teams: Baskets and Labels, Food, Funsters, Gifts, Pretty Patrol, Delivery
8.30 am - Packers
10.30 am - Navigators and Drivers (if you are in one of the earlier teams - just stay on)

Finish - All packing and cleaning up of venue will be finished by 12.00noon. Deliveries may take anything from 1 hour to 4+ hours, depending on where you are delivering to.
You will need to take all your personal belongings with you when you leave the venue. Spare cars may be parked outside the venue for collection later (please secure your car and all valuables).
Packing day is a fun, fantastic day for the whole family, please encourage your children to participate and to give back to those who may not have the same chances as them this Christmas!!
