TEAMS:
All volunteers are allocated to a team for the day, so please, before registering, read the following descriptions and decide which one would be your preference. Obviously we have to balance this so that we don't have too many funsters and not enough packers :-) Select your preference on the registration form, but please don't be too disappointed if its not your role on the day !
Note that on the registration form, the team selections all have the option of including Delivery. If you can't help with Deliveries, please be careful with your team selection.
Funsters welcome committee, Paint faces, decorate packing space with balloons, streamers etc, make the packers job easier by offering water and cut vegies and dip as snacks, break out into Christmas carols or dance, laugh and be crazy, happy and joyous, entertain and massage tired shoulders
Boxes and Labels - make the boxes up and then hand out labels with each basket, giving individual details of each family/recipient
Food - set up the Trestle tables and prepare production line of food stuffs. They then assist behind the table as the Packers come past - stocking up the food tables again etc
Gifts - prepares lollies, toys and gifts
Pretty Patrol - preparing the decorations, ribbons etc, wrapping the boxes with cellophane and decorating and wrapping the home baked Christmas cakes and decorating
Distribution Team - Takes completed baskets and places them in to organised delivery areas according to postcode and UBD map reference. Hands out specific baskets to drivers when delivery time is happening. Ensures every volunteer driver has a navigator, a map and at least 2 baskets to deliver.
Packers - do the actual packing of the baskets. You familiarise yourself with the packing list of goods, stand in line - are handed a box and a label for a specific family or individual and then you walk along the production line and place the appropriate number of items into the 'basket', then hand the completed basket to the Pretty Patrol. Repeat until all baskets are packed.
What happens with deliveries?
Deliveries - once packing has been completed, drivers will go to the delivery team and be handed their baskets in the area that they have nominated they would like to deliver to as well a map with the delivery addresses. They will also link up with their navigator (if they have not brought one of their own). NO driver delivers by themselves - you must have at least one other person with you – this is for safety and also to make it easier to deliver (Plus it’s lots more fun to share the experience!)
What if I don't have a car?
If you would love to help deliver the baskets, but don't have a vehicle, please come be a Navigator. Your job is to read the map given to you by the Delivery Team and assist in getting there!
What to bring:
Water Bottles (there will be water provided),
Snacks (to nibble on),
Santa Hats or other festive garb,
Fun attitude,
a Map / UBD if you would like to deliver some baskets,
Name Badges (we would love for you to get to know your fellow Basket Brigaders)
and lots of SMILES
Finish All packing and cleaning up of venue will be finished by 12.00noon. Deliveries may take anything from 1 hour to 4+ hours, depending on where you are delivering to.
You will need to take all your personal belongings with you when you leave the venue, as the venue will used by another group in the afternoon.
Spare cars can be parked outside the venue, for collection later (please secure your car and all valuables!).
